My Logo Design in which I created.

Today I have created another new typography design. The design in which I have created is for our title sequences opening shot.

Our opening shot shall be of our production name, and our production name is:
"Star Productions".

Where has Star productions come from?

We as a group came up with the name of Star productions in one simple step. This simple step being that we all merged the first initial of our names together. After we merged our first initials together, the name Star popped up!
For instance:
  • S - Sam
  • T - Tolga
  • A - Alex
  • R - Ryan

Below is the logo in which I created on my own. I decided to create a logo for our production name, mainly because we needed one, and I thought seeing as I am a huge part of this group, I need to do my fair share.

I managed to create this logo by visiting the popular text website 'Dafont.com'. After this, I then carefully chose what texts I would like in my logo. I then chose the text fonts and styles in which I liked, and I then extracted them into Adobe Photoshop.

What I like about the Production logo in which I created?
  • Although the colours are basic, the black and white theme fits in with the genre of our film, mainly because our genre (Psychological Thriller) is associated with dark and bleak colours.
  • The text type in which I have used resembles a Russian look. This therefore makes the logo more meaningful.
  • The design around the lettering is attractive. For example, it's not a common style in which is seen a lot. I must also admit that each letter in my logo also resembles a 'Star look'. Therefore my logo looks even more eye-catching as each style fits in with each theme.
What I dislike about the logo I created?
  • My logo overall seems very modern and recent; however our title sequence and film idea is set in the 1950's. Therefore, the two don't relate back to each other. However my logo, still has the classic look in which is beneficial.
Will my group and I use this logo for our Production logo?

After all the hard-work I have put into the creation of this logo, I would like to hope so. However we as a group still need to create a few other designs, in order to show organisation and determination. Therefore all will be revealed in due course, whether or not we will use this logo in which i created.

I personally would also like to create feedback forms for our target audience, mainly so that my group and I can see which logo they would like us as a group to use. Of course we shall create a few more logos before we create and send off feedback forms.

Overall though, I must say that I am very happy with myself, especially seeing as I feel this logo is attractive and useful for our title sequence.

Journal - Week 3

This week in Media has been very busy. For example, my group and I have been completing a lot of planning and preparation for the creation of our title sequence.

During last Mondays lesson in Media, we began to brainstorm ideas and assign roles for each team member. For instance, we as a group came to the conclusion that we shall have at least three actors in our title sequence, and we hope that all three actors who shall act will be in our group. Personally, I am more than happy to act mainly because I am willing to do anything to make our title sequence a success.

This week we have also started and almost completed creating our typography styles as well. For example, our group has now mocked up two initial designs in which we really like. We feel so confident about our designs, that even during this early stage, we feel as if we should use these designs in our final title sequence.

During our lesson today in Media, we successfully began to storyboard our title sequence. Even though we only managed to storyboard our opening two shots, I still feel that we as a group are well on track in succeeding and achieving a good grade through the creation of our title sequence.

What we did well in Media this week?

This week in Media, I feel that we were extremely organised. For example, we managed to complete our typography design mock ups. In addition, the fact that we managed to start our storyboard is a great sign, especially seeing as there is only one other group who have got this far. This therefore proves that my group and I are doing really well.

What didn't we do well in Media this week?

I must admit that this week in Media, one thing in which we didn't manage to do was think of a definite director. As a group, we managed to shortlist down a few directors, however we still haven't decided at least one definite director. I believe that by deciding a director early, we would've been able to push ahead, and even be ahead of tasks. Although, we haven't decided on a director, I still strongly feel that we as a group are achieving and working to the best of our ability.

How can we become a better group?

I believe we can become a better group by having more methods of communication. For example, during this week, I struggled to get hold of a fellow group member mainly because they didn't provide me with any useful contact details. Therefore, I believe each group member needs to communicate with each other on a regular basis, in order to become a better and more sophisticated group.

What are we going to do this week in Media?

This week in Media, I hope that my group and I are able to complete our storyboards, as our title sequences storyboards are initially supposed to be due in by the end of the week. I do however strongly feel that my group and I will be able to finish our storyboards mainly because we are a hard-working group, and as long as we communicate with each other effectively, our storyboards shall be complete.

Typography for our Title Sequence

During todays lesson in media, my group and I continued to brainstorm ideas for our title sequence. For instance, today we started to think about what the typography of our title sequence is going to be like.

Seeing as our film is going to be set during the period if time in which the Cold War is set, my group and I are adamant to use an American and Russian style font.

After deciding on this we began to search online for releavant text fonts, however we then stumbled across Dafont.com.

Dafont.com is an online text website in which consists of thousands of different text types. Therefore we as a group strongly agree with the fact that we should use a font from DaFont.com

After a short period of time, we as a group began to create different text fonts. In order to create text on DaFont.com, you have to firstly choose a text style, after this you then decided on what sort of text you you would like.

Our first piece of typography:

The above image is one of the pieces of text in which we created as a group. The above font has a Russian feel to it; therefore this is one of the reasons in why we are possibly going to consider this piece of typography.

What do I personally like about this font?

  • I like the fact that the font is eye-catching. For example, as soon as someone sees this font, they are immediately interested by it, mainly because it is rather unusual.

  • The colour scheme is interesting mainly becasue the colours portray a bold message. This therefore gives our target audience the connotation that our film must also be bold, and rather meaningful.

  • What I dislike about this font?

  • One thing in which I dislike about this font is that the colours can be seen as rather plain and boring. This therefore could possibly suggest to our audience that our title sequence must be boring, judging on the way the typography is.

  • The lettering is rather unusual - The fact that the font is unusual is a risk mainly because we as a group are unsure about what our target audience will feel about the typography.

Our second piece of typography:

This is the second text font in which we created as a group. Once again, we created this piece of typography by using Dafont.com This piece of typography has an American look to it, as during the Cold War the Americans were involved, with the Russians. This piece of typography has a bold look to it, which is one of the reasons in why it looks like an iconic and prolific American piece of text.

What I like about this font?

  • I like the fact that this font is bold and clear. This therefore suggests that our title sequence must also be powerful and meaningful, just like the other piece of typography in which we used.

  • The font is also structured successfully. For example, the lettering is in an organised fashion. This denotes that a lot of time has been constructed in order to produce this piece of tyypography (which is rather true).

What I dislike about this font?

  • The font also seems rather plain. Therefore this may possibly give our target audience the feeling that our title sequence isn't interesting what-so-ever.

  • The colours are rather simple. For instance, the colour grey isn't exactly eye-catching and/or attractive.

Thirteen - Similar to our film

Continuing on with this weeks media homework, the second film in which I would say we are inspired by is the film "Thirteen Days"

I have decided to research into the film "Thirteen Days" mainly because just like our film, "Thirteen Days" is set in the 1950's and around the period of time in which the Cold War happened; therefore, I believe this film is appopriate to look into.

I also believe the way in which the film "Thirteen Days" has been structured is interesting.
The narrative through out the film is also interesting, which connotes to it's target audience that judging by the trailer, the film must be rather interesting and worth a watch!

What I like about this film?

  • The Costume in which the characters are wearing is accurate and correct, but if the costume wasn't, the film would end up disastrous especially seeing as without the right and suitable costume, the film would seem unrealistic and rather pointless

  • The characters also resemble and represent the right stereotypical represnetation in which the military were given during the Cold War. Therefore, the fact that the characters live up to expectations, this connotes to the target audience, that the film is interesting ans again another reason in why it is worth a watch!

Research for our Title Sequence - Films we are inspired by

As part of this weeks Media Homework, we are required to research into two films, in which are similar to the genre of our film in which we shall be creating a title sequence for.

Two similar Films to our film are as follows:

  • Fight Club

  • Thirteen Days

The above clip is the official trailer for one of films we are inspired by. This film being of course "Fight Club"
I would say the film "Fight Club" is rather similar to our film, mainly because our film's genre (Psychological Thriller) is rather similar to "Fight Club's".
In addition, we as a group have considered Fight Club's director David Fincher to direct our film. Therefore, from an early stage all of my group members and I have been interested in this particular film.

What I like about this film?
  • The character types have been well structured - This therefore interests us as a group even more, mainly because we also would like to use the same character types in the creation of the title sequence of our film.
  • They typography in which has been used is fairly attractive, therefore we may also consider using a similar font to Fight Club's, especially seeing as the typography is a major part of a title sequence.
What I dislike about this film?
  • The film was released in 1999, therefore this proves that fight Cub is fairly modern, which for us as a group is pointless, mainly because we shall be setting our film during the cold war in the 1950's
  • The Costume of the characters - The costume in which the characters are wearing doesn't really portray what we would like to wear and use during the creation of our title sequence. Therefore, the costume is of no use to us.

Journal - Week 2

This week in Media, we have got together in our groups, adn begun to brainstorm ideas for our title sequence.

After a week of planning, my group and I have decided on a film name, a narrative and what we would like to use in our title sequence.

I would say we have done rather well this week, mainly because we are on schedule at this moment of time. Furthermore, I must admit we have achieved quite alot during a short period of time. For example, we are the only group at the moment, who have pitched our Pitch successfully, and also began to brainstorm our final ideas for our title sequence.

What are we going to do next?
Now that we have brainstormed ideas for our title sequences, we shall now hopefully begin to storyboard this week.
As a group, we are expecting to assign each other with different roles for this task. For example, one of our group members shall film, whilst other group members must direct and/or edit. I personally would like to either act in the title sequence or film the title sequence. I would like to be assigned these possible roles mainly due to the fact that I have had previous experience in acting in short films and also I have brief experiencing whilst filming Media sequences.

Title Sequence Ideas

During todays lesson, we as a group brainstormed ideas for our title sequence in which we shall be creating as part of our Media coursework.

  • The Genre types we have considered for our Title Sequence are a Psychological Thriller film and/or a film which is set in during the Cold War.

  • For our title sequence, we have also brainstormed ideas regarding the typography which we shall be using. As a group, we decided to use Russian Style Font, mainly because our film involves the Cold War. In addition, the Cold War, consisted of America and Russia, therefore, we thought it would be a good idea to endorse a Russian thought, as it would give the audience an insight to what our film is about.

  • We also brainstormed ideas about where we would like the setting/location of our title sequence to be. We came up with the following ideas: Police Room, Woods and/or a park.

  • Editing - A particular editing technique in which we shall be possibly considering is the Cross Cutting technique. We would like to consider this editing technique mainly due to the fact that a lot of successful title sequences have used this editing technique before.

  • The period of time in which we would like our title sequence to be set is in the 1950's. We would like to set our title sequence during this specif period of time mainly because the Cold War ws set during the 1950's.

  • Costume: As part of costume, we would like to use Russian clothing. By meaning Russian Clothing, I mean the trench hats, and the Russian Coats.

  • Props: We would like to include 1950's style guns into our title sequence. In addition, we are currently researching into props in which were used during the Cold War.

Title Sequence Pitch

Above is our groups Title Sequence Pitch PowerPoint Presentation in which we were required to create as part of the task we were set in Media.

Our pitch consists of important information regarding the details of the film in which we as a group thought of.
This vital information being:
-Title Name
-Narrative of our film
-Target Audience
-Setting/Location
-Typography
-Film Studio
-Budget
